The paper on animal husbandry and veterinary science for the mains part of the UPSC civil services examination consists of two papers, paper 1 and paper 2. The subject carries a total of 500 marks, with each paper allotted for 250 marks. Each paper will be for a duration of three hours.

The subject on Animal husbandry and veterinary science is popularly a scoring subject and chosen by candidates who have a specialization in the field in their graduation. So, by statistics, we can easily say that the number of candidates opting for this subject is relatively less compared to other subjects. The syllabus at the outset is very elaborate and pretty huge.
Many students with the specialisation at their graduation level prefer not to take this subject as their optional because of the vast and long syllabus. The limited time frame makes it difficult for aspiring candidates to study the complete syllabus in-depth and then be able to present elaborate answers in the examination.
