Bank Account Closing Letter – Format, Sample & Templates

March 22, 2021 by Karan Kapoor Leave a Comment

Bank Account Closing Letter: Whenever a customer wishes to close down his account in a bank, he needs to write a letter for the same, addressed to the bank manager. The main highlight of the application is why the customer is going to close his account in the bank. Some of the important details that are part of the letter include account number, branch code with bank address, IFSC and MICR codes, full name of the customer with the customer ID. All these details should be accurately mentioned in a bold format in the letter without fail.

There are many reasons why a customer chooses to close his account with a bank. If a person fails to keep up the bank’s minimum balance for a long time, then his account ceases to be operational and hence sees closure. If a customer maintains a non-active or dormant account for an exceptionally long time, his account may need to be closed. If a customer is unhappy with the changes in banking rules and regulations or wishes to open an account in a new bank, he may close his current account. In these circumstances and related ones, the individual needs to write to the concerned branch manager and get his application processed for successful account closure.

Bank Account Closing Letter Format and Samples

A letter is a first and foremost record that a customer needs to present to the concerned bank manager to initiate his account’s closure. Along with the letter, he needs to surrender his associated documents like cheque books, passbooks, ATM cards and any deposit certificates linked to his account. As an alternative, if the customer needs to shift base but intends to retain services with the same bank, he may opt to transfer his bank account. In this case, his current account gets closed, and a new account shall be opened as the customer’s branch requested. Usually, closure formalities need 8 to 10 days of processing.

Usually, customers tend to write letters in a very casual tone, which may not be appreciated by the banking authorities always. In such a situation, customers may need to draft proper letters with reasonably good formats. The kind of information to be furnished in the letter becomes confusion to the letter-writing customer. To keep these woes at bay, we have presented reliable and presentable formats and samples for bank account closure. Kindly check them out below.
