Why is Engineer’s Day celebrated on 15th September?

Engineer’s Day is celebrated as a tribute to all the great engineers who have contributed in the past, who are driving our present and for the future talent waiting in line to exhibit their skills. In India, Engineers Day is celebrated as a mark of tribute to the astounding achievements of Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.

When is Engineer’s Day 2021?

Every year, Engineer’s Day is observed on September 15th in India to give tribute to late engineering marvel Sir M. Visvesvaraya. UNESCO celebrates March 4th of every year as World Engineer’s Day at the international level. The day is dedicated to feel proud of our engineers’ achievements in every field of science and technology. This day is celebrated to appreciate past achievements and glorify present engineering trends. The day embarks on the modern engineering world and engineers’ significance at every step of our life.

Why is Engineer’s Day celebrated on 15th September?

Strangely, the celebration of World Engineer’s Day did not happen as a commonplace event. Instead, different nations celebrated the day in their way at different timelines of the year. In 1933, Brazil created a well-structured framework under the law for various professions, including engineering disciplines.

The Pan American Engineer’s Day celebration held at Costa Rica’s nation happens on July 20th every year. The year 1878 holds an important place in engineering history. For the very first time, an engineers’ association was formed in Croatia. Engineering students of Greece dedicate March 10th as a special day attributed to them.

In India, Engineers day is celebrated on September 15th. This day marks a special tribute to Sir M Visvesvaraya. Iran celebrates World Engineer’s week between 19th to 25th February as a special tribute to a noted Iranian scientist. January 22nd of every year is celebrated as Israel Engineer’s day. Engineering students of Nepal uniquely celebrate Engineer’s day in the form of freedom for software usage.

The USA dedicates an entire week in February to Engineers week celebrations. The week is dedicated to George Washington. To settle for a collective celebration worldwide, The World Federation of Engineering Organisations [WFEO] has officially declared March 4th as World Engineering Day.

Engineers Day 2021 Theme

The theme for World Engineers Day 2021 is Engineering for A Healthy Planet- Celebrating the UNESCO Engineering Report. Engineers Day 2020 theme was ‘Engineers for a Self-Reliant India.’ Themes could be inspired by newsletter items, promotional campaigns, social media broadcasts, etc. Audience participation is very significant in engineering day events as the customer is the king, and they are the ones to drive business!

How to Celebrate Engineer’s Day?

Events happen globally, starting from conferences, lectures, discussions, and technical symposiums. Student forums organize various professional activities and talks at their educational institutions. Seminars on specialised topics and meetings with highly revered technical dignitaries are specialities of the day.

World Engineers Day is also celebrated at engineering companies by hosting week-long workshops, mentorship programs and award ceremonies. On a worldwide scale, celebrations include showcasing products, engineering site visits, campaigns, community partnership events and round table discussions.

Essay competitions for young students showcasing budding talents in technological innovations are some of the other kinds of events held. India’s government exhibits engineering product display, the technological revolution in the form of movies and film shows to make it attractive to the next generations.

Engineers need to be awarded and remembered for their achievements on this special day. Felicitation ceremonies form an essential aspect of International Engineers’ day celebrations.

Engineer’s Day 2021 Significance

For every small need of a man, he is very dependent on technology today. Technology drives our world. Engineers implement technologies to create a new, emerging world order. Science and innovation gained importance right from fire and the wheel at the earliest stages of civilization. From there began nascent engineering creations, gradually creating analogue wonder systems.

With the IT revolution in the 1980’s, the concept of digitalization took over the world. Digital transformation digitally enabled operations, and on the whole, a digital world rules the roost today. All this is possible due to the advent of modern engineering principles. Without engineers, mixers and blenders wouldn’t rule our kitchens. Time is testimony that the most excellent engineers in the world have created the best marvels around the globe.

Engineers have simplified our lives; they have brought simplicity in place of complex processes. Online transactions, online learning, online businesses and the world today is a big online marketplace. The engineering field guides technology and extracts hidden innovations to develop better versions of products every day. This is precisely the reason why we celebrate engineers and commemorate their achievements on World Engineers’ day.
