Essay on Butterfly
“Butterflies are nature’s angels…They remind us what a gift it is to be alive”- Robyn Nola
Butterflies are one of the most beautiful creatures in our world. They are colourful insects with scaly wings. We can find them in our gardens, parks, and forests.
Butterflies belong to the same order Lepidoptera as that of the moths. Lepidos has Greek origin and means scales whereas; ptera represents the wings.
Attributes of a Butterfly
Research estimates specify that about 28,000 butterfly species exist in this world. A butterfly’s body is typically divided into three regions-head, thorax, and abdomen. It has six legs and two pairs of large wings.
These scaly colourful wings are attached to the thorax portion of the butterfly. And they are provided nourishment and supported by the veins. The body of a butterfly is covered with tiny sensory hairs. Butterflies feed on the nectar of the flowers.
Butterflies have a great sense of smell. They also have compound eyes. They are amazing fliers, and their speed varies from species to species. Some can fly as fast as 30 miles per hour or even faster. Slower butterflies fly at about 5 miles per hour.
Metamorphosis of a Butterfly
The life cycle of butterflies consists of four different phases:
Egg: This is the beginning of their life cycle.
Larva: This is the caterpillar stage. When the eggs hatch, the larva generates. It eats leaves and flowers. The larva sheds off its skin as it grows in size.
Pupa: This is the resting stage of their life cycle. Here, the grown-up larva transforms into a pupa or a chrysalis.
Adult: The metamorphosis from pupa to adult is gorgeous. In this stage, the adult butterfly emerges out with beautiful wings.
Where do butterflies thrive?
Butterflies exist all around the globe. They thrive in all kinds of habitats: hot, cold, dry, moist, etc. However, most of these species are abundantly found in tropical areas. The rainforests serve to be the home to a large number of butterfly species.
To avoid extreme environmental conditions, many of these species are known to migrate. However, the concept of migration when it comes to butterflies is still a grey area. Not much of it is well understood. Most of the species which migrate do so for comparatively shorter distances.
If I would have been offered to swap my life, I would want to be a butterfly. This is because they represent freedom. Their ability to fly without any limits or bounds makes them charming.
Butterflies are not just attractive, they make us happy. They are wonderful beings who mean no harm. Nature is their home and sky is their abode.
If I were a Butterfly Essay
“All good things are wild and free” ~ Henry David Thoreau
Our idea of freedom defines our expressions and beliefs. For some, the company of their peers becomes their aspect of freedom. For some, love towards their nation revolves around freedom. Being a free spirit, I would like to symbolize freedom with a butterfly.
My kind of freedom
We live in a place wherein Mother Nature has blessed us with so many beautiful elements. Each of these entities is responsible to brighten up our world. How would life be if we were born as some other creature? Not only would we undergo a physical transition, but our perceptions would also change.
I always wanted to experience the life of a butterfly. Butterflies are such vibrant creatures. They are an indispensable part of our ecosystem. The bright colour patterns on their body are simply fascinating. Besides, they can fly whenever and wherever they want to.
If I were a Butterfly
If I were a butterfly, I would no longer have any worries and anxieties. The stressful society and its customs would never bother me. Each day would have been an adventure. I would hop from one flower to another. I would relish the taste of sweet nectar from colourful flowers.
I would carry their pollen. With those glorious wings of mine, I would fly across the world and spread them. The blue sky and the orange sun would become my best friends. I would make people smile more often. I would play hide and seek with the children.
The thought of being a butterfly excites me. Regardless of the small span of life, I would lead a meaningful one. Oh, how I wish I were a butterfly!
