January 2, 2021 by Karan

Essay on Honesty: The golden practice of being truthful and always speaking the truth irrespective of the circumstances is honesty. An honest person portrays high standards of good moral behaviour. He follows the rules and regulations, practices good discipline and punctuality. Honesty expresses the true face of a person and connects a person with his real self.

Essay on Honesty 500 Words in English

Below we have provided Honesty Essay in English, suitable for class 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10.

Notable personalities like Mahatma Gandhi, Swami Vivekananda, Lokmanya Tilak, Lal Bahadur Shastri, etc. were legendary leaders who were not only known for their unique work but for the qualities they hold. Honesty, sincerity, and righteousness were the pillars of their struggle and success. With these, they took over the British and freed India of slavery.  Their childhood tales up till today never fails to cast a strong message of honesty in our minds and heart.

It still sets an example of the truth of getting a reward in any situation. It emphasizes on simplicity, sincerity, and contentment one receives for being honest. History is proof that truth prevailed then; it prevails now and will prevail in the future too. In layman’s term, honesty is not only about lying but also not indulging in immoral acts. It also means being fair and just to the people around us.

Speaking truth brings peace to mind as we don’t have to recall the lies spoken to protect us. It is a virtue that is promoted. One must always consider the repercussions he/she will have by speaking a lie as any benefit obtained from deception or dishonesty is short-lived and can never make us happy. Consider it as an asset that should never be traded with worthless liability.

Honesty in the Family

Family is the foundation to instil values for the overall development of a child. Parents play a vital role in molding a child’s persona. Children’s personality, character, and behaviour reflect the type of parents and family they belong to. Communication is the key to unfolding children’s hidden secrets and behavioural patterns. The children who share information about their peers, activities of their schools and colleges, their interests and their issues with the family become more comfortable in sharing and receptive to new lessons and suggestions.  White lies are common and normal among children, but lies which will question their integrity later should be fixed then and there or else it will sabotage their self-esteem and morale.

Honesty in School

After family, school plays an essential role in infusing qualities of honesty and loyalty. A teacher becomes a second mother to the child, and they look up to them for love, care, and wise lessons. Having positive student-teacher relationship matters for academic and social etiquette. Rewarding the truth ensures confidence among the pupils. Through patience, dedication, and proper guidance, honesty should be practiced on a larger scale in school as their foundation becomes more substantial and durable.

Honesty at the Workplace

“Work is worship” is a famous proverb known by all but followed by few as we are at knife point to earn even if it costs our virtue. We are in shackles of societal demands and expectations, which are daunting. Such conditions coarse people to take steps that are vile and violate the values inculcated. Employees stop voicing their opinions, suggestions, frustrations, or ideas to the firm to maintain the company’s procedures.

They do this to secure their jobs so that they are not axed from their position. So honesty remains a farfetched idea. Gradually this is changing to improve productivity and acquire the trust of the employees. ‘Grievance Redressal’ is the solution being implied in the organization to take action against malicious behaviour and fraud. The more transparent the work, the happier employees are.

Benefits of Honesty

Honesty is homogeneous to integrity, righteousness, ethics, rectitude, goodness, truthfulness, loyalty, etc. Winston Churchill once said, “Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened.” If this is followed, then every human being will respect its kind, and the cases of fraud, infidelity, and swindling will come to an end.

An honest person is the wealthiest person in the world. He/she is always revered with respect wherever they go. This quality stands out, and the person shines like a star.  Their presence is welcomed everywhere, and such people emerge victorious in life. It does not mean breaking the rules but being true to oneself. Almighty showers blessings on us for speaking truth, and the path of success becomes smooth and free of hurdles. The accomplishments are free from fear and problems.

A dishonest person surrounds himself by a pile of lies and gets trapped whenever they are caught. They are stigmatised and considered a disgrace to society. They are even referred to as a snake in the grass whom one cannot trust. Their life becomes miserable, and they end up being unsuccessful and loser.  It is wise to follow the standards of morality and lead a disciplined life. In another statement, Thomas Jefferson said that “Honesty is the first lesson in the book of knowledge.” Great men in the past have written this statement, however, this holds its relevance even today.
