It has become an integral portion of our lives and has made it so comfortable for us. Modern man cannot thrive without the internet. The Internet has taken over the world with its wide usage. So what does the term mean? The internet’s technical definition is- an extensive network of computers that are connected through some medium.

Now the medium can be a satellite, telephone lines or even optical cables. It provides us with all kinds of information and acts as a communication platform. The Internet has led to revolutionary transformations in our societies, businesses have boomed, economy has changed, and cultures have evolved- all due to the internet. It also has impacted the political and religious aspects of our lives. However, the darker side of the internet also exists. People have misused it and caused destruction.

Advantages of Internet

With the help of the internet, we can virtually communicate with people worldwide. Delivery of messages in the form of e-mail can be done in a matter of seconds. This has enabled businesses to thrive. They can easily reach their customers anytime anyplace. Real-time chats and video conferences have greatly benefited the public. Today even if you miss your friend’s birthday, wishing him is just a video call away.

The biggest advantage provided by the internet is the abundance of information. It is like a treasure chest of data. Whatever you want to know, you can find it on the internet. There are tons of service providers like Google, Yahoo and Bing, making this possible. These are called search engines. They help you find a list of information ranging from technology to government matters.

The shopping industries have made a complete turnover due to the internet. There are tons of online websites today which sell products to a wide range of customers. The internet has dramatically facilitated e-commerce.

Disadvantages of Internet

Everything has a good and a bad side to it. Similarly, there are a few disadvantages to the internet. It is accessible to all kinds of people, and some of them misuse the internet. Cyber Crimes are a common scenario at present times. There are numerous cases of hacked social media accounts and leaked personal data. Siphoning money from bank accounts has also been reported. A lot of fake messages circulate in these platforms, which can cause chaos. Children are prone to violence because of some internet games. Cases of kidnapping and identity thefts have surfaced mainly up.

The Internet is a great tool that we use in this world. Despite having so many uses, there are certain challenges to it. However, these negativities cannot overpower its importance. Regulating the issues and controlling them is what we can do. We must take the responsibility to identify the good from the bad. The choice is ultimately ours to make.
