March 2, 2021 by Karan

Maternity Leave Application: Female employees who expect delivery of their babies in a short period or have already given birth can apply for maternity leave. A maternity leave format needs to be addressed in a formal tone by the leave seeking employee to her senior. Letters addressed to company heads/ supervisors/ school principals in case of teachers need to be written precisely and handed over at the right time. Women need a maternity break to take rest during pregnancy and for postnatal care after childbirth. Many women seek extended leave after childbirth for a minimum of one year to spend quality time with their newborn. In this article, students can understand the various parameters of maternity leave applications.

Formally speaking, as per government rules, maternity leave can be availed anywhere from 12 to 26 weeks. In case extended leaves are required, the employee must communicate the same to the concerned person in her office and negotiate matters internally. A maternity leave letter is to be presented in a manner that exhibits correct data and facts. Care must be taken to support the letter with relevant documents and medical proofs if necessary. Correctness of starting and ending dates of the leave tenure forms the most important part of the letter. Women can avail of company-specific maternity benefits, provided they reach out to the concerned department at the relevant time.
