MHRD Scholarship 2022: The Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), in its operational ambit, has two sectors for promoting education and literacy in the country. They are the Department of School Education and Literacy and the Department of Higher Education. Through these two departments, the MHRD provides scholarships in the form of financial assistance to meritorious students. There are two distinct types of scholarships offered by MHRD for meritorious students: National Level and External Level Scholarships. Eligibility Criteria for MHRD Scholarship 2022

Each of these scholarships listed under the national and external level scholarships has different eligibility criteria. Candidates who wish to apply for an MHRD scholarship should note the different conditions before applying. Candidates who completely fulfill the eligibility criteria should apply for these scholarships. If a candidate is found to be ineligible for any scholarship, their application might be cancelled at any moment without further notice to the applicant.

Central Sector Scholarship (for college and university level students)
  • Applicant should be pursuing engineering/medical courses from AICTE/DCI/MCI recognized colleges.
  • In class 12th, the candidate should be in the top creamy layer of 80 percentile and above scoring candidates
  • Annual family income should be less than INR 8 lakhs.
  • Candidate should not be receiving any other scholarship aid.
  • Candidates pursuing regular courses only need to apply.
Prime Minister Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) for Jammu & Kashmir
  • Students whose domicile is J&K can apply.
  • Educational criteria – 10+2 OR 10+3 (Diploma) from either J&K state board/ J&K state polytechnic/ CBSE only.
  • Students willing to study inside/outside state of J&K can apply.
  • Annual income of family should be less than INR 8 lakhs.
National Scheme of Incentive to Girls for Secondary Education ( NSIGSE)
  • SC/ST unmarried girls below the age of 16 studying in class 9th state government/local body schools/government-aided schools can apply.
  • Candidate should have cleared class 8th from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas.
National means cum merit scholarship
  • Class 9 students can apply.
  • Students willing to continue into 10th and further onto 12th can only apply.
  • Class 8th exam minimum score should not be less than 55%. (Relaxation of 5% allowed for SC/ST)
  • Class 7th score not to be less than 55% ( Selection test requirement)
  • Annual family income to be less than 1.50 lakhs
Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF)
  • Students studying in 1st year or completed course in BE/B. Tech/ B. Tech/ Integrated M.Sc course from premier institutes like IITs/IISCs/NITs/IISERs/IIITs are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates who have sought admission through UCEED/ JEE/ KVPY/ SCB entrance exams can apply.
  • Candidates who have pursued/finished courses in the last 5 years also can apply
AICTE Pragati Scholarship for girls
  • Girl students admitted to 1st year of degree/diploma can apply.
  • Candidates should be pursuing course at AICTE recognized center only.
  • Annual family income should be less than 8 lakhs.
  • Maximum of two girl children from the same family can apply.
AICTE- Saksham scholarship scheme
  • Differently abled candidates can apply.
  • Disability level should not be less than 40%
  • Students admitted to 1st year of degree/diploma can apply.
  • Candidates should be pursuing course at AICTE recognized center only.
  • Annual family income should be less than 8 lakhs.
Commonwealth Scholarships in the UK
  • Candidates who have completed graduation/post-graduation can apply.
  • Those students in the final year of their courses can also apply.
  • Minimum score of 65% in the science stream and 60% in social science is mandatory.
  • Age should be less than 40 years
  • Candidates who are enrolled in a Mphil course, further planning for a Ph.D. from UK universities, only need to apply.
New Zealand Commonwealth Scholarships
  • Open to students wanting to continue studies at New Zealand.
  • Bachelor’s degree/master’s degree with minimum 65% mandatory to apply.
Chinese Government Scholarships
  • Scholarships available for undergraduate studies/masters program/doctoral studies/general scholar/ senior scholar studies.
  • For undergraduate programs – minimum of 60% in class 12th and age below 25 years.
  • For postgraduate programs – minimum of 60% in graduation and age below 35 years.
  • For doctoral research, minimum of 60% in post-graduation and age below 40 years.
  • General scholar program eligibility – At least 2 years enrolment in any undergraduate program plus 60% score in qualifying exam and age less than 45 years.
  • Senior scholar program eligibility – Must be serving as an associate professor plus master degree with min. 60% score and age less than 50 years.
South Korean Government Scholarships
  • Available for master’s degree, doctoral and post doctoral programs.
  • Master’s degree – Min. bachelor’s degree and age less than 40 years.
  • Doctoral studies – Min. masters degree and age less than 40 years.
  • Postdoctoral studies – Min. doctoral degree/diploma and age less than 45 years.
  • For pursuing courses in Biotechnology and electronic engineering, minimum score attained is set as 65%.
Japanese Government ScholarshipsScholarships available for research programs and master level Ph.D. programs.

  • Research programs – min. Bachelor’s degree with a score of at least 65%.
  • Ph.D. programs – min. Master’s degree with score of at least 65%.
  • Age less than 35 years
  • Subjects approved – humanities/social sciences/management/ maths/physics/ chemistry/ chemical engineering etc
Italian Government ScholarshipsScholarships given out for master’s degree/Ph.D. programs/ Italian language and culture related studies

  • For Masters programs – min. Graduation from India plus age less than 28 years.
  • For Ph.D. programs – Italian university norms of admission and acceptance letter from Italian govt. plus age less than 30 years
  • For research programs – Criteria is research project submission plus admission letter and age less than 40 years.
  • Italian language courses – Italian language proficiency certificate
Mexican Government Scholarships
  • Scholarships available for masters degree/ specialization/ graduate-level research and doctoral studies
  • Bachelor’s degree/master’s degree/Ph.D. degree with min. GPA of 80 (scale considered 1 to 100)
  • Must be a student of any participating institute.
Israel Government Scholarships
  • Candidates must hold an acceptance letter from Israel University.
  • Minimum masters degree for research/ specialization in subjects like chemistry/biology/agriculture/ economics/environmental studies/ biotechnology/ mass communication/ business management.
  • For pursuing Hebrew language courses – candidates should be enrolled in min. Post-graduate studies.
  • Good proficiency in English/Hebrew a must
Brazilian Government Scholarships
  • Age should be between 18 and 25 years.
  • Candidate should have at least 60% in class 12th with min. 60% in English.
  • Candidates enrolled in the final year of studies must show authorized letter/certificate
  • Familiarity in the Portuguese language a must.
Presidential Scholarships, Sri Lanka
  • Candidates pursuing graduation can apply.
  • Age to be less than 25 years.
  • This scholarship is not for engineering/medicine/dentistry courses.
Ms. Agatha Harrison Memorial Fellowship
  • Good merit record with consistency in marks.
  • At least 60% marks in post-graduation.
  • Ph.D. degree in the respective study area is a must.
  • Age should be between 30 and 40 years.
  • Determination for promoting an academic career in history/political science/ economics is a must.
  • Teaching experience in relevant subjects at the graduate or postgraduate level after completing Ph.D. is also a must.

The various kinds of scholarships offered by MHRD come in with its own set of guidelines and selection criteria. Here are a few metrics based on which candidates would be selected for these scholarship schemes. The metrics or parameters in consideration are:

  • Government of Sri Lanka will make a conduction selection of candidates.

  • Only one prospective candidate shall receive fellowship via the interview process.

MHRD Scholarship Renewal Procedure

MHRD shall grant students a scholarship till the respective student completes his/her course without any breaks in studies. Also, students have to submit a renewal application form every year by quoting several details like the marks scored in the previous year of study; attendance maintained, consistency in marks, etc. This scholarship mainly aims to help meritorious students from low-income groups; hence maintaining a good track record in studies is essential.

  • Under the login section, click on the renewal login for the current year.
  • Provide details like student Id of last year [current applicant Id] and password.
  • Enter all relevant details in renewal application for,
  • Enclose/upload scanned documents to support your renewal application form.
  • After all, entries, click on the SUBMIT button.

It is hereby noted that candidates who have already received a scholarship from MHRD in the previous year should rightly choose renewal options for the current year and not click on the fresh application, which will be considered a duplicate application made by the candidate for the same scholarship. The authorities shall not entertain such acts, and therefore the renewal of the earlier scholarship availed shall remain cancelled in that case.

MHRD Scholarship Rewards & Benefits

Each of these scholarships offers different benefits and rewards, and it varies between the National and External scholarships as well. The respective amount and aids are tabulated below for a quick and easy reference of students:
