It was a new place, a modern-day and first day of my school in a new school. My father works in the police department as a police officer, so he keeps receiving transference from one place to another depending upon his work. I never had the opportunity to study in the same school and spend my childhood with similar friends. They kept on changing due to our constant relocation to different places. I woke up in the morning, had my breakfast and got ready for school. It was a bright sunny day, and as usual, I was excited and anxious to meet new people in my life.
My mother dropped me at the school gate. While travelling in a car, we had a small pep talk where she was trying to make me understand the fresh opening and beautiful encounters I will experience in the school. As soon as I reached, I was nervous and a bit scared. I bade my mother goodbye and slowly walked inside the gate. Kids were smiling, laughing and staring at me. I felt like an alien who just landed from another planet and desperately wanted to go back, but I promised my mother that I would enjoy my brand-new environment.
A generous lady approached me and asked me my name and classroom. She was kind and guided me to my classroom an even introduced me to the class. I breathe a sigh of relief and felt relaxed. My classmates seemed friendly, and one of the kids offered me a seat next to him with a smile.
Our class teacher entered the room and wished us a good morning. Before starting the class, she noticed me and asked me to introduce myself to the class. I did, and everyone seemed happy to welcome me as their classmate. My class teacher was affectionate and considerate. I was delighted at last and comfortable. I made new friends and got acquainted with the school’s surrounding. The day ended well, and I was contented and glad to be part of this new school and place.

My First Day at School
Summer holidays were over, and the next day was my first day in school as a senior. It was a new term and a new beginning. I was excited and thrilled to commence my senior year and got ready for school. As I was waiting for my thirteen-year-old friend Riya, who is my school going partner, my mother informed me that she is not going to school this year. I was astonished to hear that because Riya is an ambitious girl who loved her studies and school and, on hearing she is not attending school shocked me.
I asked my mother the reason for her non-attendance. She told me that her father lost the job recently as the company was shut and he was unable to find a new one. It was difficult for him to meet the ends and couldn’t afford school fees this year. As soon as he finds a job that fits his bill, then he will again enrol her in the school. I was heartbroken because Riya is a smart and intelligent girl who will miss her school, and a valuable year will be missed. She will turn gloomy and won’t talk to anybody as a school means everything to her.
Before leaving, I rushed to her house and met her. On reaching, I saw her sobbing at a corner with the school uniform on. Her eyes were red with continuous crying, and as soon as she saw me, she couldn’t stop herself and hugged me tightly. I could see her eyes expressing how desperately she wants to attend her school, meet her friends and explore new knowledge. It is that time, I promised her and myself, no matter what Riya is going to school this year. With a heavy heart filled with hope, I left her and went to school.
As I reached, I met my headmaster Ms Rohini, who is known to be the most compassionate, kind, considerate and loving person on the campus. She loved children and was affectionate towards them. I narrated her everything about Riya and wished to help her by raising funds through other children and teachers. She knew Riya well as she was a topper of the school and closed to her and agreed to discuss the idea with teachers and students.
The headmaster called a meeting in the afternoon, where teachers and other staff members were present. Even I was present to share the idea I had in mind to help Riya. Everybody loved it and was equally excited as me to help Riya attend school. The teachers and staff divided themselves into two groups to arrange money for the first and second term. Even the seniors, including me, offered whatever we had saved in our summer holidays. I was contented that we could manage to raise her fees for this year.
Riya’s friends, my friends, schoolmates, teachers and staff all were happy. As soon as the bell rang, I ran to meet Riya and surprise her with the good news. She was waiting anxiously for me at her verandah. The moment I saw her, I hugged her with a big grin and announced loudly that she will not lose this year of school and can start from tomorrow.
Her joy knew no bounds, and she jumped gleefully. Her father was watching us and asked me how it is possible as he doesn’t have money for school. I told him everything about the help teachers, staff and other children offered to help Riya. His eyes were filled with tears, and he thanked all of us with sincere gratitude. At the end we all were happy. The next morning, Riya and I together went to school.
