The garden that surrounds my house is definitely my favourite place to be. It is peaceful and helps me calm down when life becomes too much to handle. Having a garden, spending time in it and taking care of it have many benefits for everyone regardless of their age or experience.
It makes you feel proud of yourself for taking care of something so well, it reduces stress, and it also gives you the chance to grow your own fruits and vegetables.
Moreover, gardening also really helps the environment. By having a lot of greenery around you, it helps improve air quality and also makes the surroundings smell sweet.
My garden doesn’t look large from the outside, but when you’re inside, you realize that there are much more plants than you thought. My garden has large trees, shrubs, herbs and gorgeous flowers.
My favourite tree is the sapota tree, otherwise known as the chikoo tree. This is because when the sun sets in the evening, its rays filter through the leaves of the sapota tree, and the view is absolutely beautiful.
I also adore the mango tree, which is taller than even the entire house itself. It is thick, massive, and when you climb up the terrace, you can see dozens of pretty mangoes just waiting to be plucked. The trees are surrounded by several flower bushes- the rose bushes are gorgeous. They grow in many different colours, with the white and red being my favourites because they stand out.
There is a path that runs throughout the garden and around the house. It is made of different materials at different points. I find this very unique, and I think that it adds character and makes the garden more special.
The most important aspect of the garden is that it is entirely designed by my grandparents. They wanted to make the house feel more cosy and homely and decided that the best way to do that would be to have a garden all around where people could go if they felt sad. Moreover, green is said to be a calm colour, and my grandparents wanted the house always to be peaceful.
We don’t have a professional gardener to help take care of it. All the work such as watering the plants, weeding the garden and keeping away pesky insects and animals are done by the family.
We pluck the sapota fruit very regularly. We also make sure that the part of the tree that leans over the fence isn’t chewed off my cows or subject to stealing by other naughty children. They aren’t the only visitors to the garden- when I wake up in the morning, it is to the sound of birds chirping as they make homes in the trees.
I get to see several different kinds of birds on several occasions. If I’m lucky, I get to hear the sounds of parrots sitting up in the giant mango tree, but they always stay well hidden.
I always found plants to be a calming presence that allows you to focus. When I am older and finally have a place of my own, I would definitely want a small garden of my own. Something too massive would be tough to take care of, so I would like to have some pot plants instead.
These would be ones that I understand how to take care of and are also safe for animals since I really want a puppy or a kitten. The plants that I love the most and would definitely want in my garden are aloe vera, jasmine and lilies of all colours. In conclusion, I believe that having a garden is really beneficial to everyone in terms of emotional, physical and mental health.
