Example of the Importance of a Family
The importance of a family can be better understood from this story: The Giving Tree
In a faraway village, there lived a man named Jerry along with his wife. One day Jerry decided to visit his son, who worked in a city. He reached the town where his son lived and went to the address from where he used to receive letters long back. He knocked on the door; feeling excited to see Thomas after such a long time but was quickly disappointed when he saw someone else open the door.
“Isn’t this supposed to be Thomas’s residence?” he asked.
“No, Thomas left long ago, and now lives in a different location.”, came the reply.
Dejected, Jerry started walking down the road. Along the way, a few of his neighbours recognized him and told him his son’s whereabouts. Delighted, Jerry went to his office address and asked for Thomas.
“Can you tell me what your relationship with Thomas is?”, asked the receptionist.
“I am his father.”, Jerry humbly replied.
As soon as Thomas got to know that his father was there to see him, he asked him to be escorted to his office.
Jerry, with tears in his eyes, went over to Thomas and they had a happy reunion. After a heartfelt conversation, Jerry asked Thomas to come home with him, “Your mother misses you very much and would like to see you.”, he said, hoping for a positive reply.
“I cannot go with you, father. I have lots of tasks and have to work my way up to success.”, said Thomas.
His father told him that he understood his situation but hoped that someday he would be able to spare some time for his family, after saying that he left.
Thomas started feeling very guilty for the way he treated his father. Soon after, he went back to his birthplace. After reaching, he could not find his parents anywhere. With the help of some people, he entered the outskirts of the village, which looked like a graveyard. Thomas broke into tears. He could not believe his eyes.
“What happened to you, father?”, he asked.
“Son, we didn’t mean to trouble you. But, my farming business ran out, and I couldn’t pay back the loans I had taken for your college and car.”
“Why didn’t you tell me, I’m your family.”, said Thomas.
“All we wanted was some time to spend with you. We’re old, and cannot travel so far to meet you.”
