Punjab Scholarship: The Punjab state government has opened up several scholarship schemes for its students who are meritorious and deserve financial aid from the government. These scholarships are awarded at both school and college levels so that students get easy access to education without fees becoming a constraint for pursuing higher education. The government is offering these scholarships in addition to the financial grant it receives from the central government. This article provides detail information about Punjab Scholarship 2020 that includes the last date to apply, eligibility criteria, list of scholarships, the online application process, documents required, application status, rewards and benefits.

Punjab Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

Each scholarship awarded by the Punjab state government comes with its own set of eligibility criteria and conditions. The set conditions are exclusive and binding to each scholarship. Hence candidates must check twice and cross-check before applying for any scholarship. The scholarships are differentiated amongst themselves based on three factors:

  • Educational qualification of the candidate applying for the scholarship.
  • Merit ranking/ score of the candidate
  • Annual income of family to which candidate belongs to.

Post Matric Scholarship for SC students
  • Students pursuing 11th standard to post doctoral studies are eligible to apply.
  • Annual income of family should be less than 2.5 lakhs
Pre Matric Scholarship for SC students
  • Students pursuing 9th and 10th standard are eligible to apply.
  • Annual income of family should be less than 2 lakhs
  • If such student is receiving any other scholarship, he wouldn’t be eligible to apply for this one.
Post Matric Scholarship for OBC students
  • Students pursuing 11th standard to post doctoral studies are eligible to apply.
  • Annual income of family should be less than 1 lakhs
Pre Matric Scholarship for OBC students
  • Students pursuing 1st to 10th standard are eligible to apply.
  • Annual income of family should be less than INR 44,500
Chief Minister Scholarship scheme
  • Open for all categories – SC/ST/BC/EBC/OBC/general merit etc
  • Class 10th high scorers with minimum of 60% and above percentage in board exams can apply
  • Scholarship if mainly to help those students studying in government polytechnics/diploma courses
Pre Matric Scholarship for minority classes
  • Students pursuing 1st to 10th standard are eligible provided they achieve more than 50% in the qualifying exam.
  • Annual income of family should be less than INR 1 lakhs
Post Matric Scholarship for minority classes
  • Students pursuing 11th standard to post doctoral studies are eligible to apply.
  • Annual income of family should be less than 2 lakhs
Merit cum means scholarship for minority classes only
  • Applicable for undergraduate and postgraduate streams provided they score at least 50% in their qualifying exams.
  • Annual income of family should be less than 2.5 lakhs
Attendance Scholarship – For backward classes (including economically backward classes ) plus primary girl students
  • Class attendance of female applicants should be more than 75% to avail this scholarship.
  • Annual income of family should be less than 1 lakhs and land possession not more than 5 acres.
Attendance Scholarship – For SC category candidates plus primary girl students
  • Class attendance of female applicants should be more than 75% to avail this scholarship.
  • Parents of candidates should not be income tax payers and land possession not more than 5 acres.

Punjab Scholarship Rewards

The Punjab state government offers two kinds of scholarships for students – fee waivers and cash rewards for meritorious students. The cash reward shall be credited to the account of the beneficiary through a method of direct benefit transfer. Below we have provided award details of Punjab Scholarship

Post Matric Scholarship for SC students

  • INR 1200(per month) for students staying in hostels
  • INR 550(per month) for students studying in day schools and colleges
  • INR 1600 (per annum) as study tour charges
  • Waiver of non-refundable fee.
  • INR 1600 allowance for research students for preparation of thesis reports
  • INR 1200(per annum) for purchasing books, only for distance courses.

Pre Matric Scholarship for SC students

  • INR 350(per month) for students staying in hostels
  • INR 150(per month) for students studying in day schools
  • INR 750(per annum) as book allowance for students studying in day schools and INR 1000 (per annum) for hostel dwellers.
  • For students with disabilities, suitable extra scholarship amount shall be provided.

Post Matric Scholarship for OBC students

  • INR 750 (per month) for students staying in hostels
  • INR 350 (per month) for students studying in day schools and colleges
  • INR 175 for visually challenged students
  • INR 900 (per annum) as study tour charges
  • Waiver of non-refundable fee.
  • INR 1000 allowance for research students for preparation of thesis reports

Pre Matric Scholarship for OBC students

  • For students from class 1 to 5 – INR 25 (per month)
  • For students from class 6 to 8 – INR 40 (per month)
  • For students from class 9 and 10 – INR 50 (per month)
  • Additional grant(ad-hoc grant) – INR 500 (per annum per candidate)

Chief Minister Scholarship Scheme

  • Students whose score is between 60% to 70% in class 10 – fee waiver up to 70%
  • Students whose score is between 70% to 80% in class 10 – fee waiver up to 80%
  • Students whose score is between 80% to 90% in class 10 – fee waiver up to 90%
  • Students whose score is between 90% to 100% in class 10 – fee waiver up to 100%

Pre Matric Scholarship for minority classes

  • INR 600 (per month) for hostel residents from class 6th to 10th
  • INR 100 (per month) for students studying in day schools
  • Grant of admission fee – INR 500 (per annum) from class 6th to 10th
  • Grant of tuition fee – INR 350 (per month) from class 6th to 10th

Post Matric Scholarship for minority classes

  • Grant of both admission and tuition fee of up to INR 10,000 (per annum)
  • INR 1200 (per month) for students staying in hostels
  • INR 550 (for 10 months) for students studying in day schools and colleges

Merit cum means scholarship for minority classes only

  • INR 1000 (per month) for students staying in hostels
  • INR 500 (for 10 months) for students studying in day schools and colleges
  • Course fee waiver – INR 20,000 (per annum) for students studying in day schools/colleges and/or staying in hostels

Attendance Scholarship – For backward classes & SC category (including economically backward classes) plus primary girl students

  • INR 50 (for 10 months)

Punjab Scholarship Application Process

The complete process of the scholarship application, processing, and providing updates is done in the ONLINE mode only. To ease out the process of application form filling and submission, candidates have to thoroughly understand the rules and regulations before beginning to fill in the details. Details once entered in the application form after submission shall not be allowed to change later. So candidates have to be careful in this section while applying for the scholarship they intend to apply. Each scholarship has a distinct portal through which it should be applied. The table below gives all the details about the scholarship application.

General rules and regulations for applying through respective ONLINE portals:  

  • Visit the respective portal that you seek to claim scholarship from.
  • Register yourself on the website with relevant candidate id/password details.
  • Enter all compulsory and relevant details as requested in the form.
  • Enter the contact information correctly.
  • Upload all documents as requested and as per size specification.
  • Submit the form after verifying details.

Kind note to students: All details entered in the application form must be verifiable and should be supported by relevant government-issued documents.

Documents Required for Punjab Scholarship

The application form shall be supported by relevant documents that are given below:

  • Mark sheets of qualifying exams (Attested)
  • Identity proof of the candidate
  • Address of residence or address proof of the candidate
  • Caste certificate(wherever applicable)
  • Income certificate – Attested(wherever applicable)
  • Passport size photos of the candidate(Scanned copies)
  • Bank account details (Copy of the first page of passbook)
  • Aadhaar copy

List of Courses to Course Group

Courses are grouped under Group 1 to differentiate between technical and non-technical courses as also professionally awarded and non-professionally awarded degrees. The respective course names are as given below:

  • Non-Professional degree courses – Bachelor of Fine Arts and similar courses
  • Professional degree courses – B.Technology/ Bachelor of Engineering
  • Post-graduation courses (professional degrees) – Master of Hotel Management, Master of Pharmacy, Master of Planning, and related courses at the master level.

Punjab Scholarship 2020 – FAQ’s

1. Are the Punjab scholarships open to other state students as well?
No. The domicile/place of stay of the candidate should be Punjab, and only Punjab students shall be offered scholarships.

2. What is the exact date when applications need to be submitted on the ONLINE portal?
Each scholarship has a different deadline date. These dates shall be updated in the ‘Announcement’ section of the respective ONLINE portal page.

3. Till what period of time is the registration on the ONLINE portal valid?
The validity period is not specified. But for candidates who fail to submit an application for scholarship within 15 days, such registrations shall be deemed to be invalid without any further notice to the student.

4. Should candidates submit original copies of documents?
Upload soft copies of original documents while submitting the application form. For verifying purposes, show these documents to authorities at the educational institution where a candidate is studying, and then it would be returned after authentication.

5. Can we make changes to the application form if we have entered the wrong details by mistake?
If candidates choose ‘Lock and forward application form’, then changes cannot be made. Till then, changes can be made several times for wrongly entered data.

6. What basic details are required while filling up the application form?
Roll number of the course enrolled for, admission date, enrolled course details, etc.

7. What about the renewal of the application?
You should make another application while choosing a renewal option under the online portal.
