Essay on Road Rage: Angry outbursts between motorists and drivers on the road due to driving difficulty leads to road rage. Displaying aggression outrageously sometimes leads to accidents and even causes deaths. Women, elderly population and slow drivers are usually at the receiving end of road rage. Abuses from alcoholic riders are common causes of road rage. In India, a normal male driver under the age of 19 is considered easily susceptible to take part in road rage incidents.

Road rage refers to the violent acts, aggressive or angry behaviour shown by the drivers on road vehicles. These acts may include rude behaviour, verbal abuse, offensive gestures, physical threats & dangerous driving methods which may cause harm to other drivers or the people on the road, including pedestrians. It sometimes leads to severe damages of life & property, severe cases leading to death.

The leading causes for displaying such kind of activity are to intimidate others or to vent out frustration, stress & anger. Strategies for the same may be many like honking, swerving, attempting to fight etc. It may not sound that dangerous, but it is deadly. It is a widespread hazard of congested, busy & fast-paced roads.

Causes of Road Rage

Generally, the leading causes of road rage are stress & frustration. Aggressive drivers lose their patience & calm, leading to such dangerous activity. Driving under the influence of alcohol sometimes leads to such kind of activity as the person is not fully aware of the actual scenario & the risks involved with these acts. They also sometimes drag themselves to fight with others on the road leading to aggressive activities. Shortage of time or getting late also gives rise to such pieces of evidence. For instance, a person who is in a hurry rushes vehicle with high speed without caring about the safety of others on the road.

These fast actions which do not give time to think about what is going wrong, lead to a significant loss. At other times drivers are in a rush for money or any personal issue, in which situation they tend to stop thinking about anything else. Due to stress & time pressure, they lose track of people around them. This leads to a competitive environment surpassing safety. Nowadays there are more teens behind the wheels, who try to do a different kind of adventures on the road. They love fast driving & are very impatient. They often try to surpass safety to save time & for fun also sometimes, which is one of the causes of road rage.

Effects on Drivers

Road rage affects all the drivers; whether involved, you are involved directly or indirectly. The behaviour of stressful drivers depends on the coping abilities of an individual. Instead of getting angry, which are beyond others control, the drivers must develop patience. Controlling our own emotions on wheels are essential. Developing better driving habits with patience helps us to tackle the situation to some extent. Drivers who experience road rage are also more prone to commit more traffic violations.

There is a direct relationship between stress or frustration & road rage. Few more factors which need to be taken care to reduce the road rage cases are the strict prohibition of driving vehicles under the influence of alcohol. The younger age group of people are most likely to get involved in road rage. Mostly acts of drivers who drag into road rage can be studied according to their behaviour on the road & must be avoided as far as possible. Most cases of road rage take place due to traffic, parking spots disputes, rude gestures, increase speed, to run a red light, to follow and lane changes.

Scope of Road Rage

Almost over eighty-four thousands road rage incidences take place every year. Countless road accidents take place every year. However, road rage cases always do not lead to accidents, but these indeed involve aggressive acts. Any individual may commit this type of activity having no boundaries on gender, ethnicity, age or culture.

Road rage cases are results of misunderstanding, carelessness or ignorance on minimal activities on the road. Everyone always does not do everything knowingly. However, most people take these things wrongly, which develops into road rage. Almost all the drivers have experienced road rage at some point in time. It gets dangerous if a driver does not know how to control the anger & have patience.

The most severe cases also include the use of weapons like knife, gun & sharp objects. Although it is considered the fact that road rage started from the United States, but now it is not limited to that country anymore. Other countries also have reported several road rage cases in this modern world.
