Short Paragraph on Road Safety – 100 Words
According to the Association of Safe International Road Travel, about 1.35 million people worldwide lose their lives due to road accidents every year. An additional 20 to 50 million people are victims left with long-term disabilities due to non-fatal accidents. With new vehicles being produced and purchased every day, the traffic on roads is constantly rising. Pedestrians, hawkers, and roadside vendors always fear being run over or rammed into by trucks, buses, cars, and scooters.
In many countries, people who drive over the speed limit, drink and drive, drive without a seat belt on and ride a scooter without the helmet are fined, jailed and apprehended for flouting road safety rules. Even though most countries’ governments have stringently punished people for ensuring road safety and minimising mishaps, these accidents occur routinely due to negligence and rash behaviour. One must always educate themselves about road safety and strive to be alert and aware of the wheel.
Long Paragraph on Road Safety – 250 Words
We live in a fast-paced world where accidents are an everyday phenomenon. Accidents occur due to negligence, rash driving or speeding. While it is almost impossible to avoid accidents, one can always minimize the number of fatalities and casualties caused by them. Several precautions and measures must be taken by pedestrians, drivers, riders, roadside vendors and hawkers to minimize the risk of an accident. The local government must ensure that the roads, highways, paths and streets are levelled and that citizens are aware of the existing traffic rules.
On every crowded street or highway, traffic police must be stationed to regulate the flow of vehicles. They must also check drivers’ identity and driving license and fine them if the documents aren’t in keeping with the existing norms. Moreover, they should also check if a person is wearing a helmet, attaching the seat belt and not using the phone while driving. The government must also check whether traffic lights on roads are in working condition regularly. Street lamps and night lights must be switched on as soon as the sunsets to avoid any accidents due to darkness/hampered vision.
Street signs and boards need to be placed around every corner to appraise the driver of the permitted speed limit, the route ahead and other aspects. As citizens, it is our duty and responsibility to ensure that we are following all the rules and being cautious when we step out on roads and highways. It is imperative to realize that one small error on behalf of a driver, a rider or a pedestrian can cost someone else’s life. Even though accidents occur frequently, they must not be taken lightly by anyone. The government must urge all its citizens to drive safely, acquire a legal license, follow traffic rules, and be aware when at the wheel.
