Greetings to all present here. Dear teachers & my dear friends. It’s a great pleasure for me that I got a chance to speak in front of you all on the auspicious occasion of Teachers Day. I would like to start my speech with popular thought – “A teacher is like a candle – it consumes itself to light the way for others.”
A teacher is the most valuable asset for a country. They are the front-liners who are helping to change, improve & develop society. A teacher is the one who moulds students into different personalities who helps in providing back to society. They have been given a position higher than that of the parents. Teachers are the backbone of our country whose contributions are incomparable in shaping the future of India.
They are the sources of knowledge & enlightenment for all of us. They play a significant role in showing the path to the students for their future. It is quoted that teacher is the profession that teaches all other professions. The 5th of September is when the whole country pays respect & gratitude to the teachers of our country, marked by the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
He was an Indian philosopher, academic & statesman who served as the first Vice President & 2nd President of India. He has been awarded the highest civilian award Bharat Ratna for his exemplary work in education. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan always believed that teachers should be the best minds in the world.
When he was the President, some of his students approached him to allow them to celebrate his birthday, but he replied that instead of celebrating his birthday, it would be a very proud privilege for him if that day will be celebrated as Teachers’ Day. Since 1962 his birthday is celebrated as Teachers Day on the 5th of September every year in India.
Since then, students worldwide celebrate this day by presenting various activities like speech, essay, thoughts, inspirational messages, dance, song & drama, etc. Even now, students are adopting online methods for thanksgiving sessions to their teachers from far-off places. Teachers’ day serves as a reminder to appreciate teachers for their contribution to the country.
On this special occasion, I would like to thank all my teachers who have always supported me. It is impossible to achieve that greater height in life without you all in my life. Thank you for being my mentor & guiding me throughout whenever I needed it. I would like to end my speech with a famous quote by Aristotle, “Those who educate children well are more to be honoured than parents, for these only gave life, those the art of living well.”
Thank you! Happy Teachers Day!
