Good morning one & all present here. Dear teachers & my dear friends. It’s a great pleasure for me that I got a chance to speak in front of you all on the auspicious occasion of Teachers Day. I would like to start my speech with this famous quote that – “A teacher is like a candle – it consumes itself to light the way for others.”
A teacher is the most valuable asset for a country. They are the front-liners who are helping to change, improve & develop the society. A teacher is the one who moulds students into different personalities who helps in providing back to society. They have been given a position higher than that of the parents. Teachers are the backbone of our country whose contributions are incomparable in shaping the future of India.
They are the sources of knowledge & enlightenment for all of us. They play a significant role in showing the path to the students for their future. It is quoted that teacher is the profession that teaches all other professions. The 5th of September is the day in which the whole country pays respect & gratitude to the teachers of our country marked by the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishan. He was born in the year of 1888. He was one of the most distinguished scholars of India.
He completed his education at Madras Christian College in 1911, he became assistant professor & subsequently worked as a professor in different colleges. He was an Indian philosopher, academic & statesman who served as the first Vice President & 2nd President of India. He has been awarded the highest civilian award Bharat Ratna for his exemplary work in education. Sarvepalli Radhakrishan always believed that teachers should be the best minds in the world.
When he was the President, some of his students approached him to allow them to celebrate his birthday, but he replied with instead of celebrating his birthday, it would be a very proud privilege for him if that day will be celebrated as Teacher’s Day. Since 1962 his birthday is celebrated as Teachers Day on the 5th of September every year. Teacher’s day serves as a reminder to appreciate teachers for their contribution to the country.
