World Forgiveness Day 2020
July 07th of every year is popularly celebrated as World Forgiveness Day. A famous proverb quotes “It is human to err, it is divine to forgive”. Likewise, human nature is not all good and at the same time, all bad.
We all respond to a situation in our ways, and that more or less makes us good or bad in people’s eyes. We all have different life experiences, some favourable and other not-so-favourable.
People who make these experiences happen for us are branded excellent or bad by us accordingly. But the most magnificent kind-hearted gesture we can owe to someone is to forgive them.
Forgiving a person doesn’t mean hitting on our egos. It is to let go of all the bitterness we hold for someone, instead fill our hearts with love and compassion.
World Forgiveness Day 2020 – History
The Christian Embassy of Christ’s Ambassadors first started World forgiveness day celebrations in 1994. It was initially celebrated in Vancouver, Canada.
An educational organization also created the World Forgiveness Day by the name ‘World Forgiveness Alliance’. Robert W Plath, the creator of this alliance, took efforts in California to exclusively dedicate a day to forgive people, be forgiven and send a message out to the world to celebrate the day every year.
It is common for religious organizations and secular communities to spread the message of love and well being amongst their people.
They act as torch bearers to enlighten people about not holding back ill feelings about a person anywhere, in any form.
They teach us to forgive people, to show them empathy, not to hold them responsible for their faults.
Significance of World Forgiveness Day 2020
The day acts as a striker to help us realize the importance of forgiveness. We should use World Forgiveness Day as an opportunity to forgive people around us.
If at all we aren’t happy with someone and not on talking terms with them, it’s good to revive the bond on this particular day. If we are hurt by someone on account of their words or actions, let us not keep a place for revenge and wait to strike back.
We should let go of such hard feelings. Instead create a place for filling hearts with love, create happiness and see others being joyful too!
Forgiveness is directly linked to our past. Holding on to fights of the past, unresolved grudges, resentment and unresolved anger, these are different forms of our mind that are not ready to forgive people.
On this eventful day, we should resolve to clear out these differences. We should, first of all, forgive ourselves before anyone. We, as humans commit thousands of mistakes. Rather than punishing ourselves, it’s essential to accept the truth and move on. We should forgive our beautiful souls.
Once our mind is settled with thoughts of forgiveness about our self, it becomes effortless to free others too. We begin to realize that in a manner, we committed mistakes; there is an equal possibility that others could have done the same way also.
So, by bridging the gap, the day holds importance to realisations and makes us understand the need to clear up space, let them free and forgive.
